Engine Types of BMW Motorrad
F and G series singles
The F Series of single-cylinder BMW motorcycles debuted in 1994 with the F650, produced by Aprilia with an internal combustion 650 cc four-stroke, single-piston engine,four-valve, and chain drive. The F 650's objective was to produce an introduction level of BMW motorbikes. The F650 was modified in 2000 with fuel injection and dubbed the F650GS.
F series twins
The F Series introduced two bikes to the portfolio mid-2006: the F800S sporting bike and the F800ST sport tourer, both of which feature a Rotax 798 cc parallel-twin engine. These motorcycles additionally utilise a belting speed controller comparable to the F650CS.
R series flat-twins
The horizontally aligned flat-twin boxer engine powers the R series. Because the engine is positioned with a longitudinal shaft, the cylinder heads project further than the frame's sidewalls. Originally, R series motorcycles featured air-cooled heads, but they are currently only available with complete oil conditioning or water conditioning.
Straight engines from the K series
Since 2004, all K series engines, either three or four cylinders, were of the original "flying brick" configuration, so named due to the engine's exterior appearance. The initial design K engines also had a dry automobile clutch. The iconic flying brick K engine powered the massive K1200LT luxury road bike until 2009 when it was phased out with the K1200LT.
