In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Ayushmann Khurrana, actor and singer, and Rana Daggubati, actor, producer and startup investor, discussed the future of Indian cinema and how over-the-top (OTT) platforms are changing the theatre experience.
Speaking at the Young Turks Conclave, Khurrana said that disruption is required everywhere.
“In India cricket and cinema are the two big entities. We revere them. Till now the digital platform has not reached the level of cinema. In the west it has good visibility. Digital platform is not age of tomorrow, it is today, the kind of cinema that I do ... I look out for ideas which are radical, quirky, out of the box, novel," he said.
While Daggubati said, “The beauty about cinema in a movie theatre is it is not in your control. You cannot pause it, you cannot forward it, you cannot do anything. You just sit and be a part of that story. That is the specialty a movie theatre will always have.”
