World Scout Day 2024: History, significance and theme
World Scout Day is observed on February 22 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts movement. The day is also popularly known as the Founder’s Day. On World Scout Day, people participate in activities such as fundraising, food drives, and other community services.

On the occasion of World Scout Day this year, let us take a closer look at the history, significance, and theme of the day.
History
The observance of the day is linked to the first World Scout Conference organised in 1920 in London. The World Scout Jamboree witnessed representative scouts of almost 33 national organisations. These representatives proposed the date February 22 as the Founder’s Day.
In 1926, the World Scout Bureau officially announced the same date as the World Scout Day.
Significance
The Scout Movement is now spread across 172 National Scout Organisations with 57 million members, as per their official website. World Scout Day plays an important role in providing a platform for the entire scout community. To mark the occasion, several Boy Scout members recommit themselves to the ideals of the organisation.
This day not only serves as a celebration to do scout and guide activities, but it also offers a platform to honour the founder of the scouting movement. World Scout Day fosters unity and solidarity among people and encourages the world to contribute to community services. It also highlights the importance of Scout Law and Promise that guides the scouts to lead their lives and interactions in a disciplined manner.
Theme
In 1956, the World Scout Committee introduced the process of announcing themes for the day to celebrate. However, the theme for this year is yet to be announced.
