Qatar has released eight detained Indian nationals. Seven of them have returned to India.

The eight ex-Navy personnel were working for the Dahra Global company. "We appreciate the decision by the Amir of Qatar to enable the release of Indian nationals," the ministry of external affairs said in a statement on Monday, February 12.
A few of the Indian nationals told news agency ANI that they wanted to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their return was possible because of his intervention.
Another veteran said they had waited for 18 months to retun to India. He said he was grateful to the PM and Indian government for all their efforts.
The eight Indian nationals had been detained in Qatar in 2022 for allegedly spying on a submarine programme. A year later on October 26, 2023, Qatar's Court of First Instance gave the Navy veterans a death sentence, which was later reduced to jail terms.
