The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday, November 8, officially announced the Fifth India-U.S. 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue scheduled for Friday, November 10. The event will see high-level delegations from both countries come together to discuss crucial aspects of their partnership, spanning defence and security cooperation, technology collaborations, and people-to-people ties.
The dialogue will be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin in Delhi.
Blinken and Austin are visiting India for the dialogue to discuss both bilateral and global concerns as well as developments in the Indo-Pacific. Blinken has been on a week-long trip visiting Israel, South Korea, Jordan and Japan.
The 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue is a pivotal platform for India and the United States to conduct a comprehensive review of their cooperative efforts. This meeting will not only assess the progress made in the cross-cutting aspects of defence and security cooperation but also delve into technology value chain collaborations and strengthen the bonds of people-to-people ties, the press release said.
The dialogue serves as an opportunity to further the visionary roadmap for the India-U.S. partnership, aligning with the vision set forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden. Their earlier discussions in June and September this year laid the foundation for an ambitious collaborative agenda that both nations aim to build upon.
In addition to the bilateral aspects, the Fifth India-U.S. 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue will provide a platform for both nations to assess contemporary regional issues. It will be a stage for exchanging views on shared priorities and opportunities for enhanced cooperation in multilateral platforms. This includes the Quad framework, where India and the United States have been actively involved, alongside Japan and Australia, to address regional and global challenges.
Singh and Jaishankar are also scheduled to hold separate bilateral meetings with their respective U.S. counterparts. These meetings will not only signify the continuity of the Ministerial Dialogue but also reaffirm the depth and significance of the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic partnership, the press release read.
