As the diplomatic rift between India and Canada widens, Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair has described the country's relations with India as significant and crucial, reiterating that the Canadian government will continue to pursue partnerships, including the Indo-Pacific strategy.

However, in a conversation with a local television channel, Blair also said that Canada has a responsibility to ensure that they conduct a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, sources have told CNBC-TV18 that the Indian government may cancel the registration of overseas citizenship of OCI cardholders who are involved in pro-Khalistani activities. India's national investigation agency is also looking to seize the properties of fugitive Khalistani terrorists.
A report by The New York Times has suggested that US officials provided intelligence to Canada that helped the country make credible allegations against the Indian government. The report has also stated that the intercepts were then gathered by the Canadian government.
Remember, while the Indian government has halted visa services to Canadian citizens, the Canadian government has not stopped processing visas for Indians as of yet.
To discuss this further, CNBC-TV18’s Parikshit Luthra spoke to Ambassador Navdeep Suri, a distinguished fellow at Observer Research Foundation, and former diplomat Ambassador Veena Sikri.
Ambassador Veena Sikri expressed her concern about the credibility of the Canadian government, stating that it is currently at an all-time low. She emphasized that the Indian government had been correct in scrutinizing and clearing the evidence provided by Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau.
Sikri asserted that Prime Minister Trudeau finds himself in a very difficult position domestically, implying that these actions by the Canadian government might be driven by domestic political considerations.
On the other side of the debate, Ambassador Navdeep Suri underscored the need for the Indian government to send a clear signal that it will not tolerate baseless accusations.
