French President Macron offers immediate assistance to Morocco after earthquake tragedy
French President Emmanuel Macron Sunday (September 10) extended his country's full readiness to provide assistance to Morocco following the devastating earthquake that claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people.

Macron's commitment came during a media briefing in New Delhi at the conclusion of the G20 summit.
He emphasised that France had taken proactive measures by mobilising all necessary technical and security teams, ensuring their preparedness to intervene swiftly and effectively should the Moroccan authorities request assistance.
This proactive stance highlights the deep bonds of solidarity and cooperation among nations when confronted with natural disasters and crises, as countries like France stand ready to extend support to their neighbors in times of dire need, Macron said.
While the offer of assistance stands, President Macron clarified that the ultimate decision to intervene lies with the Moroccan authorities.
France's preparedness signifies its unwavering commitment to act promptly upon Rabat's request, underscoring the paramount importance of coordinated international efforts to address the humanitarian consequences of the devastating earthquake that has struck Morocco, he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday also expressed grief at the loss of lives in an earthquake in Morocco. "In this difficult hour the entire world community is with Morocco and we are ready to offer them all possible assistance," he said in his opening remarks at the G20 summit in New Delhi.
The powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake shook Morocco late on Friday. The Interior Ministry of Morocco said late Saturday that 2,012 people were killed in the temblor. At least 2,059 people were injured, including 1,404 critically.
The US Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 when it hit at 11:11 pm, with shaking that lasted several seconds. Morocco's National Seismic Monitoring and Alert Network measured it at 7 on the Richter scale. The US agency reported a magnitude 4.9 aftershock hit 19 minutes later.
