The fourth phase of the national lockdown has brought respite for the e-commerce companies. They are set to start taking orders for non-essential goods even in red zones. Most states have issued new guidelines for the fourth phase of the lockdown which include opening up e-commerce activity for all goods.
Maharashtra and Telangana have allowed all e-commerce activity, while Delhi has imposed restrictions only in containment zones.
West Bengal has demarcated red zones in three areas that are designated as 'clean areas' within the red zones, e-commerce will be allowed. Punjab, Assam and Andhra Pradesh have also relaxed norms.
In a statement, Amazon India has welcomed the notifications saying the move will give a fillip to the 6 lakh retailers and MSMEs on its marketplace and help revive economic activity more broadly.
The company has said it will spend $4 billion in investments on PPEs, enhanced cleaning of facilities, higher wages for hourly teams and in developing own testing capabilities.
