The long-awaited consecration ceremony, known as 'Pran Pratistha' for the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, concluded on Monday, January 22, marking the fulfillment of what has been claimed as a 500-year-old wait for the homecoming of Lord Ram.
Nilesh Shah, Managing Director of Kotak Mutual Fund, emphasized in an interview with CNBC-TV18 that India, despite its diverse landscapes and heritage sites, receives fewer tourists than it sends abroad.
He suggested that promoting spiritualism and developing infrastructure in cities such as Ayodhya could boost the tourism sector.
Ahead of the consecration ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated various projects worth ₹15,000 crore, including Maharishi Valmiki International Airport. He also flagged off new Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat trains.
A Jefferies report projects that Ayodhya, with a $10 billion makeover, could attract over 50 million tourists annually. The transformation is expected to turn the ancient city into a global religious and spiritual tourist destination.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared January 22 as the "dawn of a new era" and likened the consecration to breaking free from a mindset of slavery. He urged Indians to extend their consciousness from God to the country and from Ram to Rashtra.
Nilesh Shah emphasised that, with the achievement of the Ram Mandir agenda, the focus should now shift to education and healthcare.
He noted that while India has excelled in providing top-quality education through institutions like IITs and IIMs, improvements are needed in primary education.
Additionally, Shah highlighted the need for increased investment in healthcare to elevate it to global standards, considering India's contributions to the medical field worldwide.
