Christmas is all about food, gifts, and love, with rum cake and plum cake being on the list of must-eats during the winter holidays.

Rich in raisins, dried berries, dates, apricots, and other dry fruits, rum cake is a tender dessert with delicious crumbs that is deeply moist and steeped in black rum. It is one of the most well-known traditional cakes around the world, especially during the time of Christmas. However, it can be made for several other occasions as well.
On the other hand, plum cake is a staple of the holiday dinner table. It's a mixed fruit cake that's fluffy and moist.
Here's a complete guide on how to make plum and rum cakes at home:
Rum Cake
Ingredients: 3/4 cup seasoned rum, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 cup unsalted butter, 1/2 cup sour cream, 1 teaspoon orange zest, 3/4 cup milk, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 cup chopped pecans, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 4 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 cup maida and 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
Procedure:
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and thoroughly grease the baking pan. Put the chopped pecans in the pan.
Step 2. Take a mixing bowl and mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda/powder, and salt in it.
Step 3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter, sugar, and orange zest for around two minutes. Later on, beat in the cream, eggs, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until well blended.
Step 4: Mix all the dry items into the wet ingredients and blend it. Mix rum and milk slowly until the batter is thick.
Step 5. After the batter is ready, bake it for around an hour. Cool it down, and invert the cake on a serving plate.
Plum Cake
Ingredients: 1 cup maida, 1 cup chopped mixed nuts, 1 cup mixed dry fruits, 4 eggs, 1 cup butter, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder, Salt and 1/2 cup orange juice.
Procedure:
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 160°C.
Step 2. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs to it and beat well.
Step 3. Mix vanilla extract and orange juice.
Step 4. In a mixing bowl, take maida, baking powder, and cinnamon and mix it. Add a pinch of salt.
Step 5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Add chopped nuts and dry fruits to it.
Step 6. Thoroughly grease the baking pan and pour the batter into it.
Step 7. Bake it for around 1 hour.
