Revellers plan to celebrate New Year's Eve twice, but were left miffed
Just imagine you plan to celebrate New Years eve twice the same day. Sounds like you'll need to time travel for that right? Well, actually it is possible to ring in the new year twice on the same day and there were some daredevils who even tried to do it, but it was an unfortunate turn of events for them -- don’t worry they’re all safe -- that they couldn't reach their destination on time to celebrate the second round of New Years eve.

After ringing in the New Year in Guam on December 31, 2023, some revellers were to take a flight on January 1 at 7.35 am for Honolulu, where they would arrive on December 31 itself by 6.50 am. That's cause the time zone changes.
According to CNN, Flight UA200, operated by United Airlines was initially set to depart Guam at 7.35 am on January 1, 2024, and arrive in Honolulu, Hawaii at 6.50 pm on December 31, 2023. The airline promised passengers a unique time-travel experience, allowing them to celebrate New Year's Eve twice. United Airlines had tweeted, "You only live once, but you can celebrate New Year’s Eve twice!"
The concept of time zone hopping for New Year's Eve celebrations is not new, with select flights offering passengers the opportunity to usher in the New Year more than once.
However, UA200 didn't live up to the excitementas the flight was delayed and when it finally took off Guam at 1.50 pm on January 1, it landed in Honolulu past 12.30 am on the same day, thus missing out on the anticipated double New Year's countdown. Miffed, passengers took to X to express their disappointment.
One individual said, "Great idea, too bad it got delayed! I was supposed to be on this flight. Double new year isn't happening anymore." Another user wrote: "I booked this flight specifically so I could do this. I got a delay notification, and we aren’t scheduled to get in until 1/1."
Nonetheless, some passengers on other flights experienced the joy of ringing in 2024 twice. Cathay Pacific's flight CX872, departed from Hong Kong just past 1 am on January 1 and arrived in San Francisco at 8 pm on December 31. Similarly, All Nippon Airways' flight NH106, departing Tokyo post 12 am on January 1, touched down in Los Angeles at around 5 pm on December 31.
