Tourism Kerala inaugurated the first floating sea bridge of Thiruvananthapuram at Papanasam beach on December 26. The move is a step towards enhancing beach tourism in the region. Tourism Minister PA Mohammed Riyas revealed ambitious plans to build similar floating bridges across districts along beaches, aiming to capitalise on Kerala's water sports potentials.
The Varkala Papanasam floating bridge, spanning 100 metres in length and 3 metres in width, is part of a broader strategy to convert Varkala to an international destination by 2024.
Minister Riyas highlighted the project's focus on popularising beach tourism in Kerala, intending to offer water sports experiences locally and curb the trend of travellers seeking such activities in destinations like Goa and Thailand.
