Pilgrimage special: Kerala initiates new measures to promote tourism
Kerala Tourism is going big to promote pilgrimage tourism and will launch a series of microsites to showcase the state's diverse heritage and accentuate the significance of prominent places of worship. Among these, a soon-to-be-launched microsite will offer a wealth of information in multiple languages, with a focus on Sabarimala, according to the tourism department, PTI reported.

This microsite, situated in Pathanamthitta district and dedicated to the hill-shrine, will provide comprehensive content in English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu, along with e-brochures and a promotional film, catering to the needs of the numerous pilgrims visiting the Ayyappa temple each year, which will help streamline their journeys.
Beyond Sabarimala, the updated site will offer additional information about other temples, travel routes, and rituals, supplemented by YouTube videos. The overarching aim is to enhance Kerala's reputation as a major pilgrimage tourism hub.

The microsite will not only offer insights into travel routes but also transportation and lodging options near temples, thereby attracting a larger number of pilgrims. Furthermore, it will furnish the latest information on Sabarimala darshan, the geographical uniqueness of the hill-shrine, and its cultural traditions, aiding prospective pilgrims in planning their itineraries.
On October 16, the Tourism Department granted 61.36 lakhs for the Sabarimala microsite, following approval by the relevant working group. Previously, the department allocated 60 lakhs for an Augmented Reality Heritage Tour of the renowned Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in the state capital.
Additionally, Kerala Tourism is planning to introduce a microsite dedicated to the state's Islamic traditions, art forms, festivals, and places of worship, as part of a digital project worth 93.81 lakhs, which received approval on October 16. Similar packages have already been developed for the state's Hindu, Christian, and Jewish places of worship. The Tourism Department's overarching goal is to comprehensively promote pilgrimage tourism in the state.
