Ahead of IAF’s aerial display in Mumbai, CSMIA issues passenger advisory; here’s why
The Indian Air Force is gearing up to conduct an aerial display in Mumbai from January 12 to 14. Because of the grand aerial display, two runways at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will remain shut from 12 pm to 1 pm.

While sharing the details, CSMIA posted on X (formerly Twitter), “The Indian Air Force has planned an Aerial Display exercise at Mumbai. Due to this, Mumbai's CSMIA runways (RWY 09/27 & 14/32) will remain non-operational from 12:00 hrs. to 13:00 hrs. on 12th, 13th and 14th January, 2024.”
The authorities have also urged the passengers to cross-check their scheduled flights during the mentioned dates. CSMIA shared a passenger advisory stating, “Passengers are urged to verify their scheduled flights with their respective airlines before heading to the airport during these days. Your cooperation is appreciated.”
The advisory also mentioned a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has been issued already in advance to streamline the flight operations during this span.
The aerial show organised by the Indian Air Force will be a part of the organisation’s outreach program. This program primarily aims to create awareness and instill a deeper connection between the Indian Air Force and the local community.
The display is going to be conducted in collaboration with the state government of Maharashtra. The event will feature a flypast and low-level aerobatic display by the Su-30 MKI, a freefall, and a parachute display by the ‘Akashganga’ team and C-130 aircraft. The major attraction of the event will be the aerobatic displays performed by the Suryakiran Aerobatic Display Team (SKAT) and the ‘Sarang’ Helicopter display team.
Established in 1996, the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team has been designated as a brand ambassador for the Indian Air Force. It is a part of the 52nd Squadron of the IAF. The team is composed of 13 pilots and operates Hawk MK 132 aircraft, as per PTI.
According to the Indian Defence Research Wing, the Indian Air Force outreach programme is projected in collaboration with the Atma Nirbhar in Aerospace. It plays a crucial role in providing a platform for collaborating IAF with the private sector. With the help of this program, the organisation aims to connect collective expertise and innovation in developing technologies and capabilities.
