Popular messaging platform WhatsApp on Thursday announced rolling out a new feature allowing users to log into two accounts simultaneously. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder, chairman and CEO of WhatsApp’s parent company Meta, announced that users can now have two WhatsApp accounts logged in at the same time.
According to the details, one can switch between two accounts on the same device.
According to an official blog by WhatsApp, the new feature has been introduced to make it easy for those who have to switch between accounts such as work and personal. This move will enable the user to switch the account without logging out from the first one. Initially, it has been rolled out for the Android user while for the iPhone users, this feature will be introduced later.
“Today, we’re introducing the ability to have two WhatsApp accounts logged in at the same time. Helpful for switching between accounts – such as your work and personal – now you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones or worry about messaging from the wrong place,” read the blog post.
The blog also advised to use the official WhatsApp and not download or use fake versions or imitation versions of WhatsApp as they can be a threat to the device and the data. The official WhatsApp ensures the data is secured and private.
As details shared by the messaging platform, a user can set up a second account once the feature has been officially launched. The user will need to get an alternate phone number and SIM card or a phone that has multi-Sim or eSIM options.
How to add a second WhatsApp account?
Firstly, the user will need a second phone number and SIM card, or a phone that accepts multi-SIM or eSIM.
The announcement of this recent feature has been done weeks after reports emerged that WhatsApp is planning to make a number of other major changes to its platform. Earlier this week, on Tuesday, WhatsApp introduced a support for passkeys on Android. As per this feature, users were allowed to no longer deal with SMS two-factor authentication as they can unlock their account with PIN, facial or fingerprint recognition.
