Infosys has positioned itself as an Artificial Intelligence (AI)–first company, said Salil Parekh, Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Parekh was speaking to CNBC-TV18 Managing Editor Shereen Bhan on the sidelines of the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) 2024 at Davos on Wednesday, January 17.

Parekh pointed out that every client is looking at what generative AI can do for them, and the key question is how the scaling is going to come. It will require massive investments, Parekh added.
"We have ourselves positioned as an AI-first company. So we are using all of these things inside. We have AI assistants now for each of our functions, whether you look at HR, recruiting, sales delivery, so that is a transformation inside. We have 100,000 employees trained on generative AI, different large language models, and various ways to look at the data architecture, which is going to become the key."
The Infosys CEO also added that India's second-largest software services exporters' cloud transformation will be enhanced with AI transformation.
"My sense is that what we were driving with digital transformation with a cloud foundation will now be enhanced with an AI or generative AI transformation."
Speaking about Infosys' comprehensive programme on margin expansion, which the company started a couple of quarters ago, Parekh said, "First, on margin, we put in place several quarters ago, a very comprehensive program on margin expansion, and that, in part, has given us the underlying strength of the margin even in Q3 and even as we go ahead. We have detailed views on the five pillars, various tracks, and big mobilisation. So my sense is that is going to give us tremendous benefit."
On the macro-environment the company is operating in, Parekh said it "remains similar to what we saw in the second quarter." He added "where cost efficiency for clients is paramount and growth is not as visible, we have taken the opportunity to make our operations more efficient. So we see that as a real change in the way we are running the business."
The Infosys MD also said that they will look for small as well as mid-sized strategic acquisitions.
