vivo, the smartphone brand, has announced the second edition of the 'vivo Ignite: Technology and Innovation Awards' in India. According to a press release, the initiative aims to encourage innovation with a positive societal impact, providing a platform for young minds to develop and showcase solutions to pressing challenges.

Open to students in grades 8-12, the competition invites individual or group entries under the prototype category, aligning with the theme 'Tech for Good.' Divided into two phases and culminating in a Grand Finale in February 2024, the contest offers cash prizes and rewards exceeding 30 lakh in total.
The first phase, which commenced on November 25, 2023, requires students to submit a poster and a brief outlining their ideas, previously unrecognised. The jury will evaluate these entries, shortlisting 200 students (50 from each zone) for the second phase.
During the second phase, the shortlisted students will present a video of their prototype project along with a Project Display Board. The jury will further narrow down the entries to the top 25 ideas, which will be considered for research study, incubation, or startup opportunities.
The Grand Finale, slated to be an offline event in New Delhi, will showcase the Top 10 ideas (individuals or group entries) as selected by the jury. Certificates and incentives will be awarded to all 10 finalists and the 200 zonal winners.
Geetaj Channana, Head of Corporate Strategy at vivo India, said. "With vivo Ignite, our goal is to cultivate young talent and provide them with a platform to present creative ideas that are sustainable and globally competitive."
Last year's edition saw Arhaan Garg winning the concept category for 'Early Detection of Vocal Disorders Using Voice Analysis & Machine Learning,' and Amudhu S securing the prototype category with 'MARIMO - Eco Friendly Mechanism to Clean Oil Spills.'
The 2023 vivo Ignite Awards are organised in collaboration with CIET-NCERT and iHub DivyaSampark as knowledge partners. Students can apply online.
