The Media Dialogues: Challenges and opportunities for OTT service providers

Social media was abuzz this week with OTT platforms announcing multiple releases and tags like #ComeOnNetflix were trending as the streaming giant's launched its latest content slate.

Streaming services or OTT platforms have garnered many more subscribers, as viewership has grown along with content following the COVID-19 lockdown. OTT platforms have managed to fill a deep gap left due to the lack of live sporting events, the closing of movie theatres and fresh content on TV. They have done it with a deluge of releases, thanks both to existing players as well as the new launches of new like like Disney Plus.
On CNBC-TV18's special show Media Dialogues, Anuradha Sengupta spoke to Monika Shergill, VP of content at Netflix India to dig deep into this space.
Netflix launched in India in 2016 and has since dished out major originals like 'The Scared Games', among other movies and shows. There are 17 new titles in its latest line-up, including acquisitions, where it will spend Rs 3,000 crore between 2019-21 to produce Indian content.
