South Korean tech giant Samsung has launched its latest smartphone models amidst high anticipation and expectations. The flagship smartphones Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, a cheaper Galaxy S10e were launched at its unpacked event in San Francisco, US.
The new models, particularly, the Galaxy S10+ is expected to compete with other flagship smartphones, especially the iPhone XS.
The price of Galaxy S10 starts at $849 (roughly Rs 60,000) and packs in almost all features as its high-end sibling Galaxy S10+ -- except for a slightly smaller display and a front-facing camera with portrait mode.
Samsung is yet to announce India launch date but the company is expected to unveil the models soon in the country.
Here is a comparison between Galaxy S10 and iPhone XS.
Galaxy S10 and S10+ are first HDR10+-certified smartphones and its dynamic AMOLED display is also VDE-certified for vibrant colours and extraordinary contrast ratio for even deeper blacks and brighter whites.
Galaxy S10 has a 6.1-inch display and it is slightly smaller than the Galaxy S10+, which has a 6.4-inch display. Both the phones pose AMOLED display with a resolution of 3,040x1, 440-pixels.
This is notably larger than the iPhone’s 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display with a resolution of 2,436x1,125 pixels.
Even in the overall size, the Samsung model is bigger than the Apple phone with dimensions of 5.9 x 2.77 x 0.31 inches compared to laters 5.7 x 2.8 x 0.3 inch.
The S10 comes with an Android 9.0 software, in comparison to iOS12 software inside the iPhone model.
When it comes to capturing images the S10 has a clear advantage. It has 16-MP (ultra wide-angle), 12-MP (wide-angle) and 12-MP (telephoto) in the rear and a 10-megapixel front camera. In comparison, the iPhone comes with Dual 12-MP rear cameras and a 7MP selfie camera.
Galaxy S10+ adds a 6.4-inch screen and a selfie camera for portrait selfies.
On the memory front, the S10 will come with 8GB RAM and an expandable storage capacity of 512GB. Powered by an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor the model is backed by 3,400mAh battery. The iPhone, on the other hand, is powered by an Apple A12 Bionic processor and 2,659mAh battery.
However, one key aspect that could play a crucial role in the price-sensitive Indian market is the cost of the gadget. According to various reports, the Galaxy S10 and S10+ are expected to cost around Rs 65,000 and Rs 71,000 in India, respectively, compared to iPhone XS that costs over Rs 90,000.
Samsung's direct rival to Apple iPhone XR is Galaxy S10e that doesn't have all of the features of the pricier Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+, including the new in-screen fingerprint scanner, the advanced cameras or the curved displays.
However, it does have the same brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and the most affordable price, starting at $749 (roughly Rs 53,000).
