India's largest telecom operator Reliance Jio added over 3.1 million mobile users while rival Bharti Airtel's subscriber gain came in at 352,640 in October 2023, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
The telecom regulator released its subscription data for the month of October on Wednesday and while Jio and Airtel showed growth, there was no relief for the troubled telco Vodafone Idea on subscriber front, as it lost another 2 million wireless subscribers during the period, taking its total subscriber base to 225 million.
With the addition of 3.1 million users, Jio's total wireless subscriber count climbed to 452 million in October from 449 million in September.
Sunil Mittal-led Airtel's wireless subscriber gain pushed up the telco's user tally to 378 million in October 2023.
Cash-strapped Vodafone Idea has been battling fundraising woes and subscriber losses. The company lost about 750,000 subscribers in September, 49,000 in August, 1.3 million in July and 3 million each in May and April.
While Jio and Airtel are still expanding their 5G coverage across India, Vodafone Idea is still only offering 4G services.
