Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is rumoured to make an addition to its wearable category with the launch of the OnePlus Watch 2, which has recently been spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website with the model number OPWWE231.
OnePlus, renowned for its high-quality smartphones, made a significant foray into the wearable market in 2021 with the release of the OnePlus Band and Watch. However, 2022 saw a deviation from expectations, with OnePlus introducing the OnePlus Nord Watch, the first wearable device under the Nord branding, while withholding the launch of the Watch’s successor.
The BIS listing of the OnePlus Watch 2 not only confirms its imminent arrival but also hints at an India-specific release. Although no official announcement has been made yet, leaks and rumours have provided insights into the potential features of the OnePlus Watch 2.
A notable upgrade anticipated in the OnePlus Watch 2 is the transition from a custom operating system to Wear OS, Google’s specialised operating system for wearables. This shift opens the door to a host of possibilities, including access to Google Play, a broader range of app support, native WhatsApp integration, and the convenience of Google Assistant, enhancing the user experience significantly.
Under the hood, the OnePlus Watch 2 is rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset, a purpose-built processor tailored for wearables. This choice ensures optimal performance, efficiency and responsiveness.
Design-wise, the OnePlus Watch 2 is expected to feature a sleek circular AMOLED screen, complemented by at least a couple of buttons on the side for intuitive navigation and control. Health and fitness enthusiasts can look forward to a comprehensive array of fitness-centric features designed to monitor and enhance their well-being.
Furthermore, the OnePlus Watch 2 is speculated to incorporate fast charging technology, addressing a common concern among users by minimising downtime and maximising usage. This feature ensures that users can make the most of their wearable devices without prolonged interruptions for charging.
As consumers await the official launch of the OnePlus Watch 2, it is rumoured to coincide with the unveiling of the OnePlus 12.
