Smartphone and consumer tech brand TECNO on Tuesday, February 27, unveiled its latest flagship, the Camon 30 Premier 5G, scheduled to debut in the second quarter of 2024. TECNO showcased several interesting — but not new — features, prominently highlighting its new 'PolarAce Imaging System'.
At the heart of this imaging system lies the Sony CXD5622GG chip, identified not as a sensor, but as an Image Signal Processor (ISP). Capable of delivering an impressive 4.6 TFLOPS at FP16, surpassing the computational capabilities of the phone's Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipset, this ISP promises enhanced power efficiency, TECNO said.
According to TECNO, one of the system's flagship capabilities is its ability to perform full-scene AI noise reduction for HDR videos, which the company claimed is an industry-first.
Furthermore, the Camon 30 Premier 5G boasts the capability to produce 4K 'Ultra Night Vision' videos at 30 frames per second while consuming significantly less power compared to conventional ISPs.
TECNO also spent a considerable time highlighting its 'Universal Tone' technology, powered by AI, which it said will ensure accurate rendering of all skin tones from around the world.
"Our conpetitors have focused on one or two skin tones. But we will accurately represent every skin tone in the world," Olivier Mas, Global Launch Officer, TECNO. said during the launch.
The AIGC Portrait mode allows users to manipulate portrait shots effortlessly, including the addition of various attire options, with the AI One Click Eraser feature seamlessly removing unwanted objects from scenes.
The imaging prowess extends to the device's rear camera setup, featuring a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), supplemented by a 70mm periscope equipped with a 50MP sensor. This versatile configuration, TECNO said, enables up to 60x hybrid zoom, stunning portrait captures, and detailed macro photography. Additionally, a 50MP ultra-wide lens enriches the imaging capabilities further, the brand added.
The Camon 30 Premier's design draws inspiration from rangefinder cameras, with a circular camera island resembling a zoom ring. Complementing the aesthetic is a quad-LED flash positioned adjacent to the camera module.
On the front, users will be greeted by a spacious 6.77" OLED display boasting a resolution of 1,264 x 2,780 pixels and a peak brightness of 1,400 nits. The display adopts LTPO technology, a first for non-foldable Tecno devices. The selfie camera integrates a 50MP sensor and an autofocus lens for enhanced self-portraits.
Crafted with a metal mid-frame for durability and a premium feel, the Camon 30 Premier features the distinctive "Action Dot", a dynamic indicator light serving multiple functions, including video recording, charging status, and activation of the voice assistant. Additionally, the device incorporates a suite of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an IR blaster, and an FM radio receiver. Notably absent is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Powered by the Dimensity 8200 Ultra chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM (with an additional 12GB of virtual RAM) and up to 512GB of storage, the Camon 30 Premier runs on the latest Android 14-based HiOS 14 out of the box.
