HMD Global, the maker of Nokia phones, announced on February 25 its plans to introduce a range of original HMD devices, continue producing Nokia phones and collaborate with renowned partners to offer a multi-brand experience.

Looking ahead, HMD teased an upcoming smartphone launch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The company also released a developer toolkit, inviting collaboration and customisation to meet diverse user needs.
The highlight of the announcement, however, is the upcoming Barbie Flip Phone slated to hit the markets this summer. The handset is developed in partnership with Barbie's parent company Mattel.
"Promising style, nostalgia and a much-needed digital detox, this retro feature phone will flip the script on smartphone culture and will be this summer’s hottest accessory," HMD said about the device without revealing much.
Head of Consumer Products, Publishing, and LBE, Mattel EMEA, Ruth Henriquez said, "The Barbie x HMD launch promises to be an exciting moment for Barbie fans of all ages, we're excited to flip the switch and unveil it to the world at Mobile World Congress."
Additionally, HMD announced that the company is planning to revive an "iconic" Nokia phone this summer as well. Users can also expect to see "exciting new brands" in 2024.
The company did not reveal any details about the regions the phone would launch in and the price range.
Jean-Francois Baril, Co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of HMD, expressed the company's commitment to positive change and profitability through a multi-brand strategy.
"We have plans to do so much more as we introduce the world to the new HMD. We want to be a catalyst for positive and profitable change by embracing a multi-brand strategy: crafting new HMD original devices, creating Nokia phones and collaborating with well-known global partners," he said.
James Robinson, HMD VP for Europe, Americas, and Enterprise, also highlighted the company's dedication to enhancing repairability, announcing advancements set to streamline screen repairs and empower users through the 'Fix it Yourself' movement.
