Vijay Anand Guntur, President of Engineering and Research & Development (ER&D) Services at HCLTech, recently shared insights about a host of developments in like private 5G adoption, generative AI, engineering & R&D (ER&D) businesses with CNBC-TV18 at the Mobile World Congress 2024.

Speaking about the increasing adoption of private 5G, Guntur highlighted its growth in manufacturing and Greenfield industry implementations. He emphasised the expanding ecosystem contributing to the impact of private 5G adoption, involving platform players, startups, and other stakeholders.
Guntur also discussed the diverse sectors beyond manufacturing embracing private 5G. “There are many other sectors adopting beyond manufacturing as well. We see an adoption in airports to be one use case where we have done some proof of concepts (PoC). We have seen the data when an aircraft comes into an airport, the amount of data that needs to be downloaded and analysed that's growing in size. So that's a good use case for private 5G. We have seen another use case for private 5G in mining, where worker safety is important and we are working with one of our customers in that space.”
Talking about generative AI, Guntur stated that generative AI has become very real. He added. “While we were here last time, it was a technology play, today it is becoming a real business impacting play. We are seeing horizontal use cases, which are across multiple streams as you would expect in marketing, in customer support, in engineering and now we are seeing also specific vertical use cases that are coming, which is early days. The POCs have been there for quite some time. Now we see POCs getting into production.”
In the context of HCL Software business, Guntur emphasised the integration of generative AI within products to offer AI capabilities to end-users.
Regarding the ER&D business landscape, Guntur expressed cautious optimism, stating, “We think there is still a cautious optimism in the market in terms of ER&D spend because we are very diversified.”
He highlighted ongoing deal pipelines as indicators for future growth prospects.
This information technology consulting company headquartered in Noida has a market capitalisation of ₹4,53,928.33 crore, has seen its shares gain 54% over the last year.
