Instant messaging platform Discord announced on Friday that it is rolling out a range of new features to prioritise user safety and improve the overall experience.
Safety for Teens
Discord's "Teen Safety Assist" initiative includes safety alerts for new interactions and sensitive content filters. “When a teen receives a DM from a user for the first time, Discord will detect if a safety alert should be sent to the teen,” the company said in a statement.
Safety alerts encourage caution in responses, while content filters automatically blur sensitive media. A Warning System educates users about rule violations, providing transparency and education on Discord's policies.
Mobile App Upgrades
Discord has improved its mobile app with faster launches, easier voice messaging in DMs and group DMs, and streamlined media uploads including high-quality media up to 25 MB. The platform is also extending its "Remix" feature for image editing to all Discord users. It was initially only available for users with a Nitro subscription — its paid plan for higher quality streams, customisations and other perks.
“When a mobile app user opens up someone else’s image or uploads their own, they can tap on the new ‘Remix’ button to see a new set of editing tools directly in the app,” Discord added.
Nitro Subscription Perks
Additions also have been made to Discord's Nitro subscription, which now includes customisable app icons, soundboard entrance sounds, and early access to new features.
Additionally, Discord said that Nitro members get early access to their new features, including Remix in early July, the Shop in late September and Clips last week.
Founded in 2015, Discord currently boasts over 150 million monthly active users across 19 million servers.
