Speculation is swirling around the potential expansion of iOS 18's compatibility to include the iPhone XR and its siblings, the iPhone XS and XS Max — all running on the A12 Bionic chip, according to a since-deleted post on X.

According to MacRumors, which was the first to report the update, the news was shared by a private account "with a proven track record of sharing build numbers for upcoming iOS updates".
MacRumors also stated in its report that many of their previously deleted posts had accurate information. However, since we could not independently verify it, we can't vouch for that.
Should this speculation prove accurate, iOS 18's compatibility roster would echo that of its predecessor, iOS 17. This would encompass an extensive array of iPhone models, spanning from the latest iterations to some earlier versions:

  • The iOS 18 is likely to be revealed at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) slated for June, with the subsequent rollout expected in September. While concrete details on iOS 18's features remain scarce, speculation hints at enhancements such as generative AI capabilities for Siri and integration of RCS support in the Messages app, alongside prospective design refinements.
Insight from reliable sources, including Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, suggests Apple might be gearing up for a design refresh in iOS, possibly as early as this year. While rumours suggest iOS 18 could draw inspiration from elements of visionOS, Gurman tempers expectations, cautioning against anticipating a complete overhaul akin to visionOS.
As the countdown to WWDC begins, excitement mounts within the iPhone community, eager to witness the evolution of iOS and the features it may bring to their beloved devices.
