Adobe, on Wednesday (February 21), launched an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant in beta for its Reader and Acrobat platforms, that offers instant summaries, answers questions, and helps format information for sharing. It's like having a helpful assistant right in your document software.
By tapping into the power of generative AI, Adobe aims to unlock untapped value within the vast repository of approximately three trillion PDFs worldwide.
According to Adobe, the AI assistant leverages the same advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning models that underpin Acrobat Liquid Mode, a technology known for its ability to deliver responsive reading experiences on mobile devices.
"These proprietary models provide a deep understanding of PDF structure and content, enhancing quality and reliability in AI Assistant outputs," the company said.
Abhigyan Modi, Senior Vice President of Document Cloud at Adobe, expressed enthusiasm about the potential of generative AI to revolutionise document experiences, stating, "Generative AI offers the promise of more intelligent document experiences by transforming the information inside PDFs into actionable knowledge and professional-looking content."
Users who have Acrobat Individual, Pro and Teams, and users on the trial version of the Acrobat Pro can now use the AI assistant beta. Adobe added that features will gradually roll out to Reader users in the coming days and weeks.
Among the key functionalities offered by the AI assistant are:
Moreover, Adobe assures users of robust data security protocols, with the AI assistant functionalities governed by stringent privacy measures.
While the beta phase offers a glimpse into the capabilities of the AI assistant, Adobe envisions a future where the tool extends beyond PDFs to encompass various document types and sources. The roadmap includes plans for AI-powered authoring, editing, and collaboration features to further enhance document management workflows.
Current Acrobat subscribers, including Individual, Pro, and Teams plans, can access the AI assistant beta at no additional cost. English-speaking users will be the first to experience the beta, with support for additional languages expected in the future.
