        He is the CEO of the Serum Institute of India (SII), a family-owned enterprise that his father Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla started in 1966. As of 2013, SII produces and sells more vaccine doses than any other company in the world (1.5bn). More than 3 billion vaccine doses will be produced annually by SII by the year 2021, 1.5 billion of which will be Covid vaccines.
        After graduating from London's University of Westminster in 2001, Adar joined SII. His attention was drawn to the company's worldwide market and to making certain that new goods were approved and pre-qualified by the World Health Organization for delivery to UN agencies like UNICEF and PAHO, who are part of the United Nations family.
