US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order cracking down on censorship by social media sites. Trump said that he was signing the order to protect and uphold free speech in the country. US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order cracking down on censorship by social media sites. Trump said that he was signing the order to protect and uphold free speech in the country. And this view is somewhat shared by Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

CNBC-TV18’s Megha Vishwanath spoke to Apar Gupta of Internet Freedom Foundation and discussed in what Trump’s executive order would mean for social media platforms and how will it impact users in India.
Zuckerberg said that Facebook has no intention of fact-checking political speech even as Twitter boss Jack Dorsey stood by his stance after the social media platform flagged a pair of tweets by the US president with a fact-check label that said Trump’s tweets may mislead people into thinking they don’t need to register to get a ballot.
