PSG storms into Champions League quarters as Mbappe stars amid farewell talks
French superstar Kylian Mbappe bagged a brace to take the team into the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League as the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) defeated Real Sociedad by 2-1 on the road to oust the Spanish side out from the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

PSG was lethal from counter-attacks, with Mbappe constantly causing turbulence in the Sociedad defence. The LALIGA side had topped the group stages, but they have been dealt with a host of injury issues now, leading to them winning only once in their previous 10 games.
Mbappe was too good for their backline though, finding spaces down the left flank and hitting the back of the net twice. His importance to the club reflects in the fact that he has netted 11 out of the last 15 goals that PSG has scored in the competition.
“We knew right away that we couldn’t go to sleep. If they had opened the scoring, they would have pushed on with their fans’ backing. We had to dampen their hopes early on. That’s what we did, and we’re very happy to be back in the quarter-finals,” Mbappe said after the game.
His curling shot opened the scoring in the 15th minute, as Mbappe received a long delivery by Ousmane Dembele, before charging into the box and pulling off a clever shot from little space on the channel on the flank to strike the ball into the net. Then, in the 56th minute, he received a through ball by Lee Kang-in and slided it past the goalkeeper at the near post to double the lead.
