CNBC-TV18 news break confirmed: LA28 proposes cricket, 4 other sports for inclusion in 2028 Olympics
The LA28 Olympic proposal for new Olympic sports has officially included five sports for potential inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games. The proposed sports are Baseball/Softball, Flag Football, Cricket (Twenty20), Lacrosse (Sixes), and Squash.

The final decision on including cricket in the LA28 Olympics is expected at the IOC Session in Mumbai, which will be held in Mumbai between October 15 and 17.
In an interview with CNBC-TV18 on September 1, IOC President Thomas Bach said that he was in favour of cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics but that it was up to Los Angeles as it would be the host nation. The IOC would take a final call thereafter, he added.
The IOC President had also suggested that the T-20 format of cricket makes the most sense for the Olympics. “The T-20 format was necessary with the traditional format. We could not have accommodated cricket in the Olympic programme but with a T-20 format, this would be very possible,” he had said.
In the past, cricket was played at the Olympics in 1900 when only France and England competed. This time around, however, the ICC has proposed a six-team competition for both men and women.
September 8 was to be the defining date for cricket to make it to the 2028 Games in Los Angeles but the meeting was postponed.
Bach’s exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18 last month, however, implied that cricket can make it to the world’s foremost sports competition if any future hosts propose it.
