The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is set to be held on December 19 at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena, as per an ESPNCricinfo report. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set November 26 as the deadline for the IPL franchises to submit the list of retained players.
Moreover, this is the first time that the IPL auction will be held outside India. Last year’s auction was expected to be held in Istanbul but was eventually organised in Kochi.
The BCCI had earlier set November 19 as the deadline for the 10 IPL franchises to submit their list of retentions, however, it took the decision to postpone the deadline by a week, citing the World Cup semi-final scheduled during that time.
This will be the third and final year of players’ three-year contracts, due to which a mega-auction is likely to be held next year.
In this auction, each team’s purse has been increased to ₹100 crore from ₹95 crore last year.
