India vice-captain and all-rounder Hardik Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while fielding on his own bowling during India’s match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
"The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised to rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India plays England", stated Jay Shah in BCCI's formal announcement.
Pandya picked up the injury while bowling in the 9th over and twisted his ankle. He could not continue for the rest of the over and had to retire for the game. As per earlier reports, Pandya was rushed to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru after the match ended in Pune.
“The medical team assessed his ankle scan report and it looks like he will be fine by taking an injection. The BCCI consulted a specialist doctor in England and they too were of a similar opinion. He will be missing the next game,” a BCCI official said.
"He pulled up a bit sore, nothing really major to worry about. We'll see how he pulls up tomorrow morning and then plan on how to go forward", said skipper Rohit Sharma at the post-match presentation. Pandya lost his balance while trying to stop a boundary with his right foot and dragged his foot landing on the pitch.
