Ab de Villiers explains how Suryakumar Yadav can crack the ODI game ahead of the World Cup

"I am very relieved to see SKY in the World Cup squad, I'm very happy about it. I hope he gets this opportunity in this World Cup," he said. "Looking at the balance of the Indian squad, he might not start, but a World Cup is a long tournament. So let's see what happens then," he added.

Ab de Villiers explains how Suryakumar Yadav can crack the ODI game ahead of the World Cup
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star Ab de Villiers has prompted Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav to shift his mindset slightly to find success in One Day Internationals (ODIs). With an average of 24.33 in 24 innings, Suryakumar, who is the ICC No. 1 ranked batter in T20Is, has admittedly failed to replicate his promising form in the 50-overs format.

"You guys know I'm a big fan (of Surya). He plays in a similar manner to how I used to play, but in ODIs, he hasn't cracked it yet," the South African said on his YouTube channel 'AB de Villiers 360'. "It is a tiny little mind switch that he's got to make, and he's got all the ability and capabilities that he needs to do that," he added.

Earlier, the team management tried playing Suryakumar at the No. 4 spot in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. However, he had a horrid series against Australia at home where he recorded three consecutive golden ducks. During the series against West Indies last month, it emerged that the think-tank had fixated a new role for him to accomodate the Mumbai Indians (MI) star in the ODI setup.
The Men in Blue will be playing Suryakumar at the No. 6 spot in the 50-overs format going ahead. Skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Ajit Agarkar Agarkar held long talks regarding this issue reportedly and they concluded that the batsman’s wide repertoire of shots can be best optimised in the four-down position. He possesses incredible abilities to take on spinners and pacers at will and hence those traits can be utilised to perfection whilst finishing off the innings.
