A changing trend in consumer preference where more people are watching content on mobile phones has no impact on sales of television sets, said Nilesh Gupta, Managing Partner, Vijay Sales. In fact, people are upgrading to larger screens, he added.

"No doubt the way the new generation is watching content has changed but they still have their parents and grandparents in the house, so the consumer preference towards TVs haven’t changed yet," said Gupta.
Among other products, mobile phones have seen a growth rate of 10 percent and it is an all-season product, said Gupta, adding that air conditioners and refrigerators saw good growth during the summer season. Similarly, washing machines have also been doing well right from the start of the year.
There is no challenge in large appliances, where natural growth coming of 8-10 percent month on month, compared to last year, said Gupta. TV prices have come down by around 15-20 percent due to a reduction in panel prices, which has helped sales, he said.
Usually, Ganesh Chaturthi has not been a great day in terms of sales but it was an improvement this year over normal sales. “This year the sales improved 7-8 percent over last year, and so it is a good omen for the consumer durable industry for this Diwali season, “he added.
July, August and September saw a low growth but the coming quarter is expected to better to the tune of 8-10 percent, said Gupta.
