Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary at Ministry of Urban Development, said that more than 41 lakh houses have been completed and delivered under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana so far.

“The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has already announced a special financial assistance of Rs 18,000 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. It is doing well. More than 70 lakh houses have been grounded for construction and more than 41 lakh houses have been completed and delivered with electricity, water, toilets and gas connections,” he said.
“Under the affordable rental housing complexes scheme, we have already signed agreements with 29 states and union territories (UTs),” he said.
Real estate sector contribution is very high to the gross domestic product (GDP) and to the employment, he said.
“There are umpteen number of schemes like Swachh Bharat mission, we have housing for all, we have urban livelihood mission, smart city mission, we have the urban transport programme like Metro, so overall there will be an increase in the budgetary support because lot of things are working very fine across the country and are delivering the results,” Mishra said.
“As far as housing and real estate sector is concerned, I am expecting in next one year we will definitely cross 1,00,000 on the affordable housing, the way things are going on and the inputs I am getting from the different states,” he said.
In terms of overall expenditure, he said, “Due to lockdown, there was some slowdown during that period but now we have caught up and in the housing sector itself there is a huge expenditure on the metro, on the various other things like we are going to spend 100 percent of what is provided in the budget.”
