Triple Talaq back in focus as parliament session begins

With the first parliamentary session of the 17th Lok Sabha about to begin, focus is on politically sensitive issues such as Triple talaq bill. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government is expected to press forward with the bill as one of its top priorities.

In addition to the Talaq bill issue, atmosphere inside the parliament is expected to sour as the Opposition, fresh from its defeat in the polls, will try to corner the government by initiating debates on issues such as unemployment, farmers' distress, drought and press freedom. The leading opposition party, Congress, has already took a shot by raising these matters in the all-party meeting that was chaired by the prime minister.

While the Congress has claimed that the session will witness the ‘clash of ideologies,’ the ruling BJP is likely to stand by the prime minister, who after the BJP parliamentary party meeting, assured the country that the government will be at the forefront of facilitating legislation that manifests the spirit of 'sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas'.
