The Tamil Nadu Aseembly on Wednesday, February 12, adopted resolution against the Central government's proposed One Nation One Election saying it is impractical and against the basis of democracy.
The DMK government said the One Nation One Election is not enshrined in the Indian constitution. "Elections to local bodies, state Assemblies and Parliament are being held at different times on the basis of people centric issues in (a) vast and diverse country like India and it is against the idea of democratic decentralisation," the resolution added

'One Nation, One Election' refers to the idea of simultaneously holding the general and state elections. The Lok Sabha and Assembly polls were held together in the country till 1967.
Chief Minister MK Stalin also made a case against delimitation in the state legislative assembly. He urged the Centre not to carry out post-census delimitation in 2026.
"If the number of parliamentary seats is to be increased, the present ratio between states should be maintained. States like Tamil Nadu should not be penalized for implementing socio-economic development programmes," Stalin said.
