Telangana, which was separated from Andhra Pradesh in 2014 under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, is the youngest state in the country and has 17 parliamentary constituencies.
Last week, the Election Commission announced the schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections which will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The counting of votes is set to take place on June 4. Voting across all the 17 seats in Telangana will be conducted in a single phase on May 13.
During the 2019 general elections, the K Chandrashekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), formerly known as the Telangana
Rashtra Samithi (TRS), emerged as the dominant party in the southern state, winning nine seats. With four seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stood in second position, while the Congress managed to get three seats and the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency continued to be a bastion of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM).
While the BRS received a 41.71% vote share, the Congress got 29.79% and the BJP ended up with 19.65% votes.
After its dismal performance in the last Lok Sabha elections, the Congress is hoping for a resurgence this time, buoyed by a dominating performance in the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, where it won 64 of 119 seats and dethroned the KCR-led government in the state.
The BJP continues to be in a dominant position, eyeing to improve its score this time.
Recently, Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj said that Telangana has 3.30 crore voters in total, which includes over 1.94 lakh electors above 85 years of age. He added that post the Assembly elections in November 2023, around 12.50 lakh new voters had been enrolled while 8.58 lakh names were deleted

Voting in Telangana for the 2024 general elections will be held in the fourth phase on May 13. In 2019, polling in the state was held on April 19 and it registered a total voter turnout of 62.77%.
