For the first time since the formation of Telangana in 2014, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will not be forming the government. After trailing the Congress for most of the election day, BRS has conceded defeat. Congress, which has won 64 seats in the 119-member house, will form the next government. The incumbent, BRS, managed only 39 seats, while the BJP bagged 8, AIMIM 7, and the Communist Party of India just 1.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is now tasked with the authority to appoint the Chief Minister of Telangana after Congress Legislature Party met in Hyderabad today. State President Revanth Reddy’s name is at the forefront of the list.
Revanth has consolidated his position for the post by defeating his nearest BRS rival Patnam Narender Reddy with a margin of over 32,000 votes in Kodangal constituency.
The list of contenders for the state's CM post includes state congress president A Revanth Reddy, senior leaders Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu and Danasari Anasuya Seethakka.
The Telangana police said it has been asked by Reddy to make security arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony on December 4 or December 9.
This is the first power transition from BRS to another party in the state.
Meanwhile, the grand old party has hinted about its plan to implement the promised welfare schemes soon.

After Congress' spectacular performance in the polls, Reddy thanked the people of the state for their "blessings", former national President Sonia Gandhi and sitting President Mallikarjun Kharge for mentorship.
Voting across the 119 constituencies of Telangana was held in a single phase on November 30, 2023, with a voter turnout of 71.34%.
