Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who on Wednesday, February 14, filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha election, has declared her total assets. As per the poll affidavit, the 77-year-old Sonia Gandhi has assets worth over ₹12.53 crore.

Sonia Gandhi has declared movable assets, including jewellery, royalty from Oxford University, investments, bonds, bank deposits, and cash, worth ₹6.38 crore.


Although the original document has not been shared yet, a copy of the reported affidavit has been widely circulating on social media. An X user shared a copy with the name and picture of Sonia Gandhi on it.

As per the affidavit, the current market value of her residential property inherited from her father in Italy is valued at ₹26.83 lakh. Apart from this, she also owns jewellery, including 88 kg of silver worth ₹52.7 lakh and 1.267 kg of gold worth ₹49.95 lakh.

Her major sources of earnings are the MP salary, royalty income, interest from banks, bonds, dividends, and capital gains from mutual funds.

The value of the total assets of the 77-year-old, who has been a part of the Lok Sabha for over 25 years, has shown a marginal increase over the past 10 years. In 2014, her reported assets were valued at ₹9.28 crore, which climbed to ₹11.82 crore in 2019.

The declaration also reveals her educational qualifications, including a three-year course in foreign languages (English and French) from an Italian institution. It also states about a certificate course in English language from Lennox Cook School in Cambridge, reported News18.

On Thursday, February 15, a day after filling her nomination, Sonia Gandhi told the voters of the Rae Bareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh that she would not be contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and would join the Rajya Sabha, instead.

The biennial Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for February 27, which will be filling out a total of 56 seats. The last date to file nominations was February 15.
