Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel was on Tuesday summoned for questioning by the Income Tax Department. Patel currently holds the post of the treasurer of the All India Congress Committee and the I-T department's summon pertains to the same role.
The Income Tax Department is investigating hawala and cash transactions worth Rs 400 crore reaching the Congress party.
The I-T department's summons were issued on February 11 and Patel was supposed to appear on February 14. However, Patel didn't appear for questioning.
The Congress leader replied that he was unwell and admitted to Metro Hospital, Faridabad, people aware of the development told News18. Patel told the Income Tax Department that he was facing breathing problems.
Summons were issued under Section 131 of the IT Act.
Fresh summons will be issued shortly, people aware in the I-T department told News18 on condition of anonymity.
