Rahul Gandhi likely to leave Wayanad, may contest from 2 Lok Sabha seats in these states

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to leave his Wayanad Parliamentary seat from Kerala. According to sources, Gandhi will contest from two constituencies one from either Karnataka or Telangana and one from Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The latest development comes amid the seat-sharing negotiations in Kerala, where the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) is putting pressure on Congress to give them 3 seats instead of 2 this time. IUML wants to contest from Wayanad because the majority of its voters are from the Muslim community.

Besides, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has fielded Annie Raja, the wife of the party’s general secretary D Raja, from Wayanad. It won’t look good for the INDIA alliance that one of the prominent leader’s wife will be contesting against Rahul Gandhi.

According to a TOI report, earlier, this month, CPI general secretary D Raja had said there was no discussion on asking Congress to leave Wayanad in the party’s national executive meeting.

“Wayanad is one of the four seats that CPI got as part of the seat-sharing agreement within LDF,” D Raja was quoted by TOI as saying.

Rahul Gandhi had won the Wayanad seat in 2019 with a margin of over 4 lakh votes defeating the CPI candidate PP Suneer.
