Political Exchange: Experts analyse the fallout of the Citizenship Amendment Bill

Thousands of people defied the curfew and took to the streets of Guwahati to protest against the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill. Guwahati, the epicentre of the anti-citizenship bill protests has been placed under indefinite curfew.

Mobile internet remains suspended in several parts of the state. Trains and flights have also been affected. Five columns of the Army, each consisting of 70 personnel each have been already deployed in Assam. The information and broadcasting ministry in a one-page advisory has asked television news channels to refrain from broadcasting content that could incite violence or cause law and order problems.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that the people of Assam would have nothing to worry about and that their rights would be protected. Addressing a rally in Jharkhand's Dhanbad today, the Prime Minister said that he will not allow any harm to the traditions, culture, language and rights of the North East. That's not all, he also hit out at the Congress and alleged that the party was indulging in vote bank politics.
