Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday accused the opposition of deliberately disrupting the Home Minister’s speech on the situation in Manipur, where several people have lost their lives and women have faced grave crimes in recent weeks. He said the opposition was only interested in politics and not in the welfare of the people of Manipur.

Speaking during the no-confidence debate in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi said he was sure that peace would prevail in Manipur soon and that the government was working to ensure strict action against those accused of crimes against women. He expressed his solidarity with the women of Manipur and said the country and the Parliament were with them.
“We could have discussed Manipur if they would have showed interest. Home Minister wrote and said that we are ready to discuss Manipur. The Home Minister spoke in brief for two hours on Manipur. State Government and Central Government are trying their best to give severe punishment to the accused. I want to assure the nation that the way attempts are being made in the near future peace will prevail. We want to assure mother and daughter of Manipur this country is with you, this house is with you,” he said.
PM Modi also said that the government wanted Manipur to move towards prosperity and growth and that the Central Government would not stop making efforts for the progress of the state. He expressed his shock at hearing that the opposition was talking about the murder of Bharat Mata, a term used to refer to India as a motherland.
He recalled the Congress government’s poor handling of internal conflicts, citing the Air Force bombing on citizens in Mizoram in 1966 and a military attack on Akal Takht in the 80s.
The monsoon session of Parliament has witnessed repeated adjournments and disruptions due to the opposition’s demand for a discussion and action on Manipur ethnic clashes.
This was the second no-confidence motion against PM Modi's government in the last nine years. At the last no trust motion, Modi had predicted that the opposition would bring one against him in 2023. He ridiculed them saying, despite having five years, they did not prepare well.
