Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party president Pashupati Kumar Paras on Tuesday, March 19, resigned as the Union Minister following the seat-sharing arrangement in Bihar for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Paras was the Minister of Food Processing Industries in the Narendra Modi Cabinet.
"Yesterday, the NDA alliance announced the list of 40 candidates for Bihar Lok Sabha. Our party had five MPs and I worked with utmost sincerity. Injustice has been done with us and our party. Therefore, I resign from the post of Union Minister," Paras told reporters.
Reports suggest Paras may join the opposition INDIA bloc for the General Elections.
The NDA on March 18 finalised its seat-sharing formula in Bihar for Lok Sabha elections. The BJP will contest 17 constituencies, the Janata Dal United (16) and Chirag Paswan's LJP (Ram Vilas) five, while rebuffing the claims of the LJP faction led by Pashupati Kumar Paras. Two other NDA allies -- Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Upendra Kushwaha-led Rashtriya Lok Morcha -- will contest one seat each.
This will be the first time the BJP has got more seats than Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) in Bihar, underscoring the change in their equations after they joined hands a few months back.
All three main parties have been given the seats they won in 2019 barring a few changes to accommodate two smaller parties.
