Ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election, the filing of nominations ended on October 30. Polling for all 230 seats in the state will be held in a single phase on November 17.
As per the election schedule released by the Election Commission, the results for the MP election will be announced along with the other four poll-bound states of Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Mizoram, on December 3.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the former Chief Minister and Congress state president Kamal Nath have filed their nominations from Budhni and Chhindwara constituencies, respectively. As the election campaign is entering the final phases, both CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and MP Congress chief Kamal Nath are leading the charges in the state, in what is being seen as a straight fight between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party.
The election affidavits filed by both the leaders disclose their movable and immovable assets. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s assets marginally declined in the last five years while former CM Kamal Nath’s assets dropped by nearly ₹4 crore, according to their poll affidavits.
Here is a brief look at the total declared assets of both veteran leaders.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan Assets
CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who won from the Budhni assembly constituency in Sehore district in 2018, is contesting from the same seat this time as well. According to his poll affidavit, the CM has immovable assets worth ₹2.1 crore and movable assets of worth ₹1.11 crore. His total assets in 2023 stands at ₹3.21 crore, the Times of India reported.
The MP Chief Minister’s assets have marginally dropped compared to ₹3.26 crore he declared in the 2018 elections, including movable assets worth ₹43.2 lakh and immovable assets worth ₹2.83 crore.
On the other hand, CM’s wife Sadhna Singh owns assets worth more than ₹6 crore, including moveable assets worth of ₹1.9 crore and immovable properties worth ₹4.32 crore, as per the poll affidavit.
Out of the total assets, CM Chouhan has a total cash deposit worth ₹92.7 lakh in three different bank accounts while his wife has a total of ₹71.8 lakh cash deposits in four other bank accounts.
As per the affidavit, CM Chouhan does not own a vehicle of his own but Sadhna Singh owns a 2000 model Ambassador car. Apart from the cash and other assets, Chouhan has declared owning 96 grams of gold and jewellery worth ₹6 lakh while his wife has a total of 535 grams of gold valued at ₹34 lakh. The CM cited salary, farming and the renting out of properties as his main sources of income, reported India TV.
Kamal Nath Assets
Pradesh Congress Committee chief Kamal Nath has filed his nomination from his home turf of Chhindwara. As per his poll affidavit, the former CM and his wife Alka Nath own total assets worth Rs 134.09 crore.
Kamal Nath owns assets worth ₹71.58 crore while his wife, Alka Nath’s total wealth is valued at ₹62.52 crore.
As per the poll affidavit, the Congress leader owns moveable assets worth ₹7.13 crore and immovable properties worth ₹64.45 crore. On the other hand, his wife Alka Nath’s total assets include movable assets worth ₹45.95 crore and immovable properties worth ₹16.56 crore.
The MPCC president owns 300 grams of gold jewellery worth over ₹16 lakh while his wife has 1,039 grams of gold and 2248 carats of diamond and stone jewellery valued at ₹3.33 crore.
Kamal Nath owns two Ambassador cars and a Tata Safari, worth approximately ₹21 lakh, reported India TV.
