Just days after several leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) had their security cover removed, it was revealed that the Maharashtra government will continue to provide Y+ security to 41 MLAs and 10 MPs from the Eknath Shinde camp, reported the Indian Express. Most MLAs are only covered under X category security protection.
Under Y+ security, individuals will be guarded by four security personnel spread across two shifts and are also provided with a security vehicle. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Governor BS Koshyari will enjoy the higher Z+ security cover and MNS Chief Raj Thackeray will get the Y+ cover as well.
The security cover is provided on the basis of a perceived threat after a review from senior officials and the police. This is the first security cover review after the Shinde government came to power. The Shinde-camp legislators have received Y+ security cover as they could be targeted by the members of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, a home department official told Indian Express.

The same security review resulted in the security cover of nearly 25 legislators of the MVA being either removed or downgraded. Former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and former Home Ministers Dilip Walse-Patil and Anil Deshmukh are some of the leaders whose security was downgraded.
NCP leader Nawab Malik and Sena’s Sanjay Raut, who are currently in jail, Bhaskar Jadhav, Anil Parab, Vijay Wadettiwar, Balasaheb Thorat, Nana Patole, Satej Patil, NCP’s Dhananjay Munde, Narhari Zirwal, and Eknath Khadse were the opposition leaders whose security was completely removed.
The security cover for NCP leader Sharad Pawar along with his family, including Supriya Sule, former CM Uddhav Thackeray, former CMs Ashok Chavan and Prithviraj Chavan has been retained.
