Lok Sabha Polls 2024: CPI announces candidates in Kerala; Annie Raja to contest from Wayanad

The Communist Party of India (CPI), the second-largest coalition partner in Kerala's ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), has officially disclosed the names of its candidates for four crucial seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
In a press conference held by Party State Secretary Binoy Viswam, the announcements unveiled a strategic lineup for the upcoming elections. Notably, senior party leader Annie Raja has been nominated to contest from the Wayanad constituency, a seat currently held by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Another prominent figure in the CPI, former MP Pannian Raveendran, has been chosen to contest from Thiruvananthapuram, a significant seat currently represented by senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor.
In addition to these key nominations, former agriculture minister V.S. Sunil Kumar and the leader of CPI youth wing AIYF, C.A. Arunkumar, have been selected to contest from Thrissur and Mavelikkara seats, respectively.
Viswam expressed confidence that the LDF candidates will emerge victorious in the upcoming general elections. He dismissed the notion of an anti-LDF wave in Kerala, citing the results of the recent local body polls as evidence of the favorable political trend towards the Left front.
Viswam asserted, "There is no anti-LDF wave in Kerala as propagated by the media. The people of the state think in favour of the LDF. The result of the recent local body polls is a clear indication of this."
Anticipating setbacks for the BJP and the Congress-led UDF in the state during the Lok Sabha elections, Viswam's optimistic outlook on the political landscape suggests a strong belief in the LDF's appeal to the voters.
