Delhi, the national capital of India, has seven Lok Sabha seats. The city will witness a direct contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition's INDIA bloc in the upcoming general elections. In the last two Lok Sabha polls in 2014 and 2019 respectively, the BJP won all seven seats in Delhi, despite not being in power in the national capital for over 25 years.
While the saffron party received a vote share of 46.40% in 2014, the number jumped to 56.86% in 2019. Delhi might not be a cakewalk for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as it is expected to witness stiff competition from the INDIA bloc.
Why? In the last two general elections, India's capital city witnessed a three-way competition between the BJP, Congress and the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). However, Congress and AAP have allied and will be contesting 2024 polls based on a 4:3 seat-sharing formula.
As a result, the BJP will have a direct contest with AAP on four seats and with Congress on the remaining three.
Date for 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Delhi
The general elections in the national capital usually happen in a single phase. Last time, the voting in Delhi was held on May 12. The city witnessed a total voter turnout of 60.60% in 2019, while it was 65.10% in 2014.

There are a total of seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital. These seats are -- Chandni Chowk, East Delhi, New Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi (SC), South Delhi, and West Delhi. Out of this, one seat is reserved for the Scheduled Caste category.
